CUMBERLAND/NORTH YARMOUTH - Foundation 51 has announced the recipients of the Fall 2005 grants cycle, with $14,870 awarded to six grants within the Cumberland/North Yarmouth school community. Foundation 51 is a non-profit organization founded to promote educational excellence within Maine School Administrative District 51, serving students from Cumberland and North Yarmouth. Teachers, students, parents, and community members are eligible to apply for grants twice a year; the fall 2005 grant recipients are as follows:
At the elementary level:
-
Mabel I. Wilson School, for Every Day Math books to support the school’s math curriculum.
-
Drowne Road School, for a songwriter workshop delivered by a local performing artist.
-
North Yarmouth Middle School, to purchase genre books.
-
North Yarmouth Middle School, to fund a visual arts workshop.
At the high school level:
-
Greely High School, to fund the Visiting Poets series.
-
Greely High School, to purchase six laptop computers for Greely High’s South Wing project.
Grants are funded by multiple fund-raising sources, including Foundation 51’s popular annual Auction. This year’s event, held at Pineland on November 12, raised close to $40,000 to support school programs, services, materials, and equipment that is not funded within the school’s budget.
"As school budgets get tighter, teachers and others in the community are increasingly relying on sources such as Foundation 51 to provide the equipment, workshops, and materials our students need to receive a high-quality, well-rounded educational experience," says Anne Graham, President of Foundation 51. “We are grateful that our community continues to support Foundation 51 by donating goods and services and contributing dollars that go directly to our schools.”
About Foundation 51 Foundation 51 was established in 1998 to promote educational excellence in MSAD 51 by funding initiatives that improve teaching and learning and by inspiring community involvement for the benefit of our schools.
