Foundation 51 Grants Awarded

April 25, 2005 – Foundation 51 Funds Nine Grants Totaling $14,000 for Cumberland/North Yarmouth School DistrictGrants include computer equipment, books, and learning programs designated for every school within the MSAD 51 system

CUMBERLAND/NORTH YARMOUTH -- Foundation 51 has announced the recipients of the Spring 2005 grants cycle, with $14,000 awarded to nine grants within the Cumberland/North Yarmouth school community. Foundation 51 is a non-profit organization founded to promote educational excellence within Maine School Administrative District 51, serving students from Cumberland and North Yarmouth. Teachers, students, parents, and community members are eligible to apply for grants twice a year; the spring 2005 grant recipients are as follows:

At the elementary level:
• Mabel I. Wilson School, for a visual presentation system that will enable teachers to display hard-copy documents quickly and easily in the classroom environment.
• Drowne Road School, for musical instruments.
• Drowne Road School, for historical fiction books.
• North Yarmouth Middle School, to purchase trade books for literature circles and genre studies.
At the middle school level:
• Greely Middle School, for professional printing of the student literary magazine.
• Greely Middle School Guidance/Community Resource Library, for resource books for the Student Services area.
• Greely Middle School, to fund a teacher in-service session on teaching students how to use primary research documents.
• Greely Middle School, to fund the purchase of teaching materials and realia from Guatemala.
At the high school level:
• Greely High School, to purchase a piano dolly for the music program.
• Greely High School, to purchase four laptop computers that will enable students to use existing graphing calculators.

“We were excited to see the creative and varied grant applications we received from the MSAD 51 community, and are so pleased to be able to fund so many valuable projects,” says Jennifer Jacobson, chair of the grants committee of Foundation 51. "Our students benefit from the energy and dedication of our exceptional teaching staff, and it is extremely rewarding to be able to help them purchase the supplies, equipment, and services they need to help our students excel."
