Foundation 51
Grants Awarded
May 19, 2008 -- Foundation 51 Funds 26 Grants
Totaling $32,968 for Cumberland/North Yarmouth School District for the 2007/2008
school year. Grants funded for Smart Boards, musical
instruments, teacher training, fieldtrips and presentations.
CUMBERLAND/NORTH YARMOUTH -- Foundation 51 has
announced the recipients of its 2007/2008 grants cycle, with $32,968 awarded to
26 grant applicants within the Cumberland/North Yarmouth school community.
Foundation 51 is a non-profit organization founded to promote educational
excellence within Maine School Administrative District 51, serving students from
Cumberland and North Yarmouth. Teachers, students, parents, and community
members are eligible to apply for grants twice a year; the 2007/2008 school year
grant recipients are as follows:
Grades K-5 -- Poetry
Jam
Grades 5-9 -- Lessons
that change writers
MIW-- Everyday Math
literature resources and commercial games for kindergarten and rainbow rugs for
1st grade.
DRS-- Silver Owls
project to create team building
NYMS-- Adam Miller,
folksinger, portable PA system for use in young author presentations, and Color
Guard equipment (5-8)
GMS -- Science in the
community, Paul Janeczko, Poet, using interactive gizmos in learning, Community
Contras, Stress management teaching, mapping and satellite technology, digital
microscope, multicultural speakers, Smart Board and projector, String exposure-
25 violins, Peabody Essex museum field trip admission, Primary Source workshop
GHS -- Teaching with
technology, LCD projector for public speaking, Theory of Knowledge training for
IB program, Bassoon for the music program, Smart Board to support integrated
math and science program.
"Foundation 51 has been responsible for providing
creative and inspirational learning opportunities for students at all grade
levels within the Cumberland/North Yarmouth School District." Says Lisa Marchese,
Chair of the Grants Committee.

Foundation 51 was established in 1998 to promote
educational excellence in MSAD 51 by funding initiatives that improve teaching
and learning and by inspiring community involvement for the benefit of our
schools. To date, the Foundation has funded $303,872 in school
activities, learning programs, and supplies to the local Cumberland-North
