CUMBERLAND/NORTH YARMOUTH
-- Foundation 51 has
announced the recipients of its 2008/2009 grants cycle, with $34,198.00 awarded
to grant applicants within the Cumberland/North Yarmouth school community.
Foundation 51 is a non-profit organization founded to promote educational
excellence within Maine School Administrative District 51, serving students from
Cumberland and North Yarmouth. Teachers, students, parents, and community
members are eligible to apply for grants twice a year; the 2008/2009 school year
grant recipients are as follows:
Grades K-5 –
Poetry Jam and Celebration of the Arts
Mabel I Wilson (Grades
K-2) - Math & Technology, Physical
Theater with Gretchen Berg, Kids Voices (portable microphone and amplifier
equipment)
Drowne Road School
(Grades 3) - Songwriting with
Carolyn Currie, Cinderella Literature Study, Nature Journals, ELMO-Using a
visual presenter to enrich teaching and learning in the third grade
classroom
North Yarmouth Memorial
School (Grades 4-5) - Computer
Speakers, NYMS Green Team Recycling Bins
Greely Middle School
(Grades 6-8)- Literature for Modern
Languages (French & Spanish), Restorative Justice, Author Visits, Peabody
Essex Museum Field Trip, Celebration of Africa Speaker, 100’ Projection
Screen for Library, Geo Motion Mats, Literature Circle Books for Black
History Month, Seventh Grade Field Trip to the Bowdoin Art Museum,
Enrichment Speakers for Humanities
Greely High School
(Grades 9-12)- Language Lab Support
Materials, Stand Up Bass for Band & Ensemble, International Baccalaureate
Media Support through JSTOR license and library resources, Past and Present
-Mount & Frame a Historical Photo and Subscription to Global Issues in
Context Database
About Foundation 51
This year marks the 10th Anniversary of
Foundation 51’s efforts to promote educational excellence in MSAD 51 by funding
initiatives that improve teaching and learning and by inspiring community
involvement for the benefit of our schools. To date, the Foundation has funded
over $300,000 in school activities, learning programs, and supplies to the local
Cumberland-North Yarmouth schools. Foundation 51’s largest fundraiser is an
Annual Auction to be held Saturday, November 14, 2009 at Pineland. For more
