Foundation 51 Funds Eleven Grants Totaling $14,718 for Cumberland/North Yarmouth School District
CUMBERLAND/NORTH YARMOUTH -- April 23, 2007 -- Foundation 51 has announced the recipients of its Spring 2007 grants cycle, with $14,718 awarded to 11 grant applicants within the Cumberland/North Yarmouth school community. Foundation 51 is a non-profit organization founded to promote educational excellence within Maine School Administrative District 51, serving students from Cumberland and North Yarmouth. Teachers, students, parents, and community members are eligible to apply for grants twice a year; the spring 2007 grant recipients are as follows:
- District-wide, for supplies to support Maine native culture studies.
- Grades kindergarten through five, to promote literacy.
- Mabel I. Wilson School, for a set of big books for shared reading, and responsive classroom resources for staff.
- North Yarmouth Memorial School, for professional learning community resources.
- Greely Middle School, to purchase books that were nominated for the Maine State Book award, new genre books, additional supplies for the community resource library, and to fund a speaker who is a Holocaust survivor.
- Greely High School, to purchase a digital microscope for the science department, and to fund teacher training in the International Baccalaureate program.
"We are grateful to so many in our community who donate so generously to Foundation 51, which enables us to provide the supplies, professional development, and resources needed by our schools," says Don Russell, President of Foundation 51.
The Foundation is now accepting grant requests for its Fall 2007 cycle; applications are available online at www.foundation51.org.
About Foundation 51 Foundation 51 was established in 1998 to promote educational excellence in MSAD 51 by funding initiatives that improve teaching and learning and by inspiring community involvement for the benefit of our schools.
