The 14th Annual Foundation 51 Auction,"Take a Chance on Foundation 51", occurred on Saturday, April 6th, 2013 at Ocean Gateway and was a wonderful event! Besides having fun, we also raised $23,000 for our students! Thank you to all our sponsors, donors, volunteers and attendees, we couldn't have done it without you!
The annual benefit auction is our only fundraiser, and every year we invite all community members to enjoy a fun night of entertainment with friends while helping to support a worthy cause. We began the evening with a large variety of delicious hors d'oeuvres, delicious burgers by Elevation Burger, live music by the Greely Jazz Combos, and a silent auction with local favorite Bill Green as emcee. We had a rousing game of "Top Hats and Car Seats" (aka Heads and Tails) and the winner won a Kindle, kindly donated by Susan Clifford! We then presented our Grant Recognition Award to Kristi Wright of Skyline Farm for her wonderful grant "People in Your Neighborhood", and Delaney Nolin gave us a short presentation on the "Riding to the Top" grant which she visited this summer. We moved onto a live auction with Tom Saturley, auctioneer extraordinaire, during which we heard from Allie Waterhouse, Dena McFarland and Bethany Hanley on the importance of the grant we funded at NYMS entitled "Adventure-Based Learning". It was a terrific evening.
auction. With a stunning venue on the water, live music by local artist Debbie Bassett, a waterfall flowing with Caribbean punch and delicious food provided by "A Moveable Feast", the atmosphere couldn't have been more wonderful. Both the silent and the live auctions had many terrific items, ranging from jewelry to pottery to kid's outings with teachers to Celtics tickets and even a chance to hang out with Tom Caron before a Red Sox game - we make sure there is something for everyone! The evening held other opportunities for fun, as well. Blush Photography provided a free photo booth with cruise-themed props, an activity which elicited much silliness and laughter, and Greely students sold rubber duckies for mystery prizes, colorful leis as tickets into the "Heads and Tails" game (the winner won a Kindle Fire!), and $50 raffle tickets for the chance to win a grand prize of $2,500 cash. This year's $2500 winner was Debra Wallace, who generously donated half of her winnings back to Foundation 51! Needless to say, the event was a tremendous amount of fun and a huge success. On November 19, 2011, nearly 200 community members gathered at Ocean Gateway in Portland for our cruise-themed
The November 2010 annual auction drew our largest crowd ever, with over 240 people in attendance at Pineland Farms in Pownal. There were many teachers and other MSAD 51 staff present, which always enhances this community event! Black Tie Catering provided a fabulous meal which attendees enjoyed when they weren't busy perusing the hundreds of wonderful auction items available. Karen Morgan, "Maine's Funniest Mom", was our auctioneer for the evening. Despite the horrible rainstorm outside, people brought their festive attitudes and participated not only in the auction but also in some fun events throughout the night, aided by a group of energetic student volunteers. The students sold $5 Mardi Gras beads as entry tickets into what turned out to be a very robust game of "Stars and Moons" (aka Heads and Tails), and the winner, Bonnie Vance, won an iPod Touch! Students also sold balloons for $10, which purchasers then popped to win a mystery prize, and raffle tickets with a $2,500 grand prize. Thank you ALL for your tremendous support!
We had a fabulous turnout for our harvest-themed auction in November of 2009 at Pineland Farms in Pownal. One big draw was our entertainer for the evening, Karen Morgan, who had recently been crowned, "Maine's Funniest Mom". Karen performed a hilarious comedy routine and also played the role of live auctioneer for the night. Many great items were available, such as Abaco beach vacations, Patriots, Celtics and Red Sox tickets and a week at a Sugarloaf Condo, to name a few. The silent auction offered several categories of items from "Kids" to "Arts & Home" to "Teachers & Schools" to "Women's"....close to 1000 items were sold! Attendees were also able to purchase small pumpkins from our student volunteers, and we thank Skillins Nursery for their donation of 50 pumpkins! The students also acted as runners for our silent auction and sold tickets to our famous raffle of $2500 cash. It is said that laughing is good for one's health, and this was definitely a very healthy night for the MSAD51 community!
Foundation 51 was thrilled to celebrate our 10th anniversary in 2008! We had a terrific auction commemorating this anniversary at the Woodlands Country Club in Falmouth. Scott Steinberg provided wonderful piano entertainment while Scott Maker emceed the event. Mike Carey was a fabulous auctioneer, auctioning off great items such as a New England Clam Bake on a Casco Bay Island, a Tailgating Party for Kids at a Greely Football Game, and a Day at the Ropes Course at the Cairn Leadership School. The fall of 2008 had been the largest grant cycle to date, as we awarded over $18,000 in grants to the schools of MSAD 51, and we couldn't have done that without the support like we got at this auction! We thank and appreciate our many sponsors, donors, volunteers and, especially, our auction attendees!
In our 9th annual auction, members of the community came together for a fun casino-themed evening at Pineland Farms in Pownal. Scott Maker was a very entertaining emcee while John Locke provided fabulous auctioneering skills. Some of the wonderful auction items, both silent and live, were a Fiesta Cocktail Party for Twenty, a Week at a Cottage in Bar Harbor, and a Party with Local Rock Band "Cerulean" at THE Grange Hall in West Cumberland! You can bet that everyone had a marvelous time!
